CLUB WORLD CUP LIVE: Monterrey 0 Chelsea 3

Hair-raising: David Luiz wins an aerial duel against Jesus Corona

50min If we thought this was a breeze for Chelsea before, it certainly is now. That double blast has left Monterrey reeling and it could quite easily be a rout. Torres has been officially credited with their second, though it may go to a dubious goals panel.

48min GOAL! 3-0 to Chelsea and this one is an own goal, by Chavez. Torres broke down the left, curled a ball across to Mata. His cutback has gone in off the unfortunate defender Chavez. How many will they go on to score now?

47min GOAL! Game over now, surely, as Chelsea score again within seconds of the restart. Mata leaves the right-back for dead and finds Torres. The Spaniard bursts through and, with the aid of a massive deflection, finds the net.

Matt Barlow timed the goal at 17 seconds into the second half and says it's gone down very well with the Chelsea fans, who can now look forward to a cruise to the end.

46min The second half is underway in Yokohama. The next goal is all-important.

Half-time! Just one minute added on and Chelsea are leading 1-0 at the break. It's been a lot more comfortable than that scoreline suggests.

44min Nearly half-time. David Luiz drives forward on another one of his swashbuckling midfield runs - he's doing what he does best and it has been very effective.

Breakthrough: Juan Mata celebrates his goal to put Chelsea 1-0 up against Monterrey

41min A great cheer goes up as Frank Lampard emerges from the bench for a warm-up. That'll be a lot of use three minutes before half time.

Matt Barlow sends another pen postcard: 'Disinterest soaring as half-time approaches. Some of the travelling Chelsea fans are sporting the little face masks which became fashionable when there was an outbreak of Sars and are still quite popular.

'Big cheers for Frank Lampard as he jogs into the vast space behind the goal to warm-up. Benitez will be very satisfied with the way his team have performed. David Luiz has excelled in midfield, although he has not been tested defensively.

'Monterrey have looked flimsy at the back but very disappointing as an attacking force. It took them nearly half an hour to threaten Petr Cech’s goal. The Mexicans have improved since but have yet to really been extend Cech.'

38min Monterrey starting to grow into the game, attacking also down their right now. Can they equalise before half-time? Not for the moment, as De Nigris sends a difficult header wide of the mark.

Driving forward: Fernando Torres breaks through the Monterrey defence

All smiles: Rafa Benitez prepares for the kick-off
33min The game has dropped into a bit of a lull, with Chelsea pinning Monterrey back in their own half and keeping hold of the ball when they have it. There's a half-chance for Torres, unmarked in the centre, but Cole's ball proves difficult to control.

The camera pans to a picture of Michel Platini shivering in the stands - he looks delighted to be there. Not. Pretty nippy pitchside as well...

27min Bit of initiative by Monterrey down the left - they seem to be having more joy against Azpilicueta than Cole - and De Nigris heads over the bar from the cross.

22min Optimistic long range effort from Ashley Cole following some nice work by Mata and Hazard. It's easily gathered by goalkeeper Orozco.
Tussle: Chelsea's Eden Hazard fights for the ball with Neri Cardozo of Monterrey

Ready for action: Chelsea line up before kick-off

Japanese adventure: Fernando Torres walks out with the Chelsea team

20min Free-kick swung in by Mata and Branislav Ivanovic heads over the bar.

17min GOAL! Juan Mata gives Chelsea the lead after an excellent move. Ashley Cole gets forward for the first time, breaks clear and pulls the ball back to Mata, who sweeps home from 15 yards. It's been coming to be honest.

16min The first chants of 'There's only one Di Matteo' - Rafa can't go anywhere, can he?

'The Japanese fans are not so sure about it, even those in blue shirts. Especially those in blue shirts,' reports Matt Barlow.

14min Not a great deal of excitement on the pitch, so here's a couple of crowd shots from inside the stadium:
